A little less work. A little more you.

Compress video in your browser

Make a video smaller without uploading the original file. Kitecut runs compression on your device, with a size target or a quality setting you can adjust before exporting.

How to use it

  1. Choose a video. The editor starts with medium-quality compression.
  2. In the plan, choose a target file size or change the quality level. Lower the resolution too if a very small file matters more than detail.
  3. Run the plan, check the reported output size and preview, then download the result.

A size goal, with a result you can check

A file-size target is a goal, not a guarantee. The encoder estimates a bitrate from your clip's duration, then checks the output. If it is still too large, Kitecut can retry once and reports when the goal remains unmet.

For example, if an attachment must fit under a limit, choose a target below that limit to leave some room. Check the actual exported size before sharing; compression cannot make every long or detailed clip fit every target.

Trade file size for detail deliberately

Lower bitrate usually reduces size while losing some visual detail. Reducing resolution or trimming unwanted footage can make a tight size target more practical. Recompressing an already efficient video may offer little improvement.

Long videos and large resolutions can take significant time and browser memory, especially on phones. Keep the tab open and try a shorter clip or lower resolution if processing fails.

Questions before you start

Is the video uploaded for compression?

No. The original media is processed in your browser. Hosted AI is optional and receives your messages and technical file details; transcript text is sent only if you enable sharing.

Can compression preserve exactly the same quality?

Re-encoding to a lower bitrate can lose detail. There is no universal setting that guarantees both a smaller file and identical quality. Preview the output and keep the original.
